About

Dr Ian Newey is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with over 30 years of trauma-informed therapy experience.

Meet Ian

I’m a Chartered Psychologist (BPS), HCPC-registered, and a member of the Division of Clinical Psychology with over 30 years of clinical experience. My academic background includes a B.Sc. (Hons) in Psychology, M.Sc. in Health Sciences, and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Clin.Psy.D.).

I specialise in helping people of all ages understand the social and psychological factors that have led to their difficulties. I have particular expertise working with people with a history of trauma, adversity, invalidation and abuse. I also have extensive experience supporting young autistic people and those with complicated attachments, including those in care, adopted with loving ‘forever’ parents, or with care experience.

I’m trained to use a range of therapeutic models, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, EMDR, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Mindfulness and Compassion-Focused Therapy.
